Transylvanian Cat
The Transylvanian cat is an emerging natural breed based on domestic cats that have the distinctive colour pattern of the Carpathian cat and originate from the Carpathian region. These cats have silvery white tails, paws/legs, ears and muzzle, but a rather black body. In its range, the Carpathian pattern appears on domestic cats in all colour versions, but is most evident on black cats with no markings, which is why this colour was chosen for the design of the standard, along with its diluted blue version. The breed is in the recognition phase of the WCF umbrella organization. The Transylvanian cat is based on healthy tested individuals that are not descended from other breeds, but purely from domestic cats in their natural range. An interesting feature of the breed is that the carpatti-coloured Transylvanian cats change their appearance throughout their lives. Kittens are usually born grey with light-coloured ears, muzzle, paws and tails and lighter bellies. As they mature they gradually darken, some to black, and the carpati markings fade until about 1-2 years of age, when transylvanian cats have their darkest period. After that the carpati pattern picks up again and the older the transylvanian gets the lighter it gets, veterans tend to be grey again. They have a friendly disposition and are normally active and calm like true house cats. Transylvanians are suitable for all those interested in a natural, healthy breed with a mild friendly nature that will impress and surprise with its colouring.
